Dementia – Timely Diagnosis

Course Outline:

Dementia – Timely Diagnosis

Course Title

Dementia – Timely Diagnosis

Course Duration

Half Day Course

Introduction

In our seminar we process some of the facts and opinions on this matter and we allow participants to reflect on their own practice and compare it with that of peers.

We explore what constitutes timely diagnosis of dementia and consider the various cognitive assessment tools that are available – practising with those that are practical and free from copyright.

This leads to a focus on the key conversations for people with (or carers of people with) dementia. We consider whether and how to share our suspicions and diagnoses with patients and their carers, practising this and other tricky conversations that can crop up in this context.

Course Description

In this seminar, participants will have learned about the epidemiology and significance of the dementia illnesses and, crucially, will have practised relevant conversations.

As with all EPI seminars, the focus is on practical ideas. Participants will leave the seminar with enhanced skills for conducting these (sometimes difficult) conversations.
